Potassium iodide is an inorganic chemical compound (a metal halide salt) that has an ionic bond between the potassium cation (K+) and the iodide anion (I–). This compound is prepared with iodine and a mixture of potassium hydroxide. Potassium iodide salt is oxidized to iodine over time when exposed to sunlight and oxygen in the air and absorbs moisture in the air.
